The International Forum For Algerian Women (IFFAW) is an NGO whose main goals are to promote and defend the rights of Algerian women and young girls as well as their participation in politics and economy. IFFAW also aims to raise awareness on gender equalities and develop a better documentation on the subject supporting vulnerable/marginalized Algerian women and young girls.

The General Directorate of National Security and the National Gendarmerie Command revealed their annual statistics for women victims of violence in Algeria for the year 2021, which they chose to present to raise awareness on violence against women in Algeria just 2 days before the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which falls on November 25 of each year. According to those statistics presented during a press conference on Monday, 22nd November 2021, the General Directorate of National Security and the National Gendarmerie Command recorded 17,737 cases of violence against women in Algeria in 2021. The National Gendarmerie Command counted 12,511 women subjected to violence during the year 2020, They also counted 12,331 cases during the first nine months of 2021, The National Security statistics on the other hand indicated that 5,412 cases of violence against women were recorded during the first nine months of 2021. Similar numbers to the ones declared in this report seem to be repeating over the past years since the year 2000. We therefore wonder about the truthfulness of those statistics.... We have no tools to check if those statistics are genuine but a simple calculation adding those declared numbers at the press conference for cases of violence against women in Algeria in 2021 will show that 12,331 + 5,412 = 17743 cases instead of 17,737 cases In terms of numbers, the security services have always recorded 5 cases of beatings leading to death, 9 cases of attempted murder, 57 cases of sexual assault, 67 cases of sexual harassment and 21 cases of kidnapping, In addition, 91 cases of harassment were recorded on the public road, 1137 cases of mistreatment Spousal violence topped these statistics with 1573 cases, representing 29 % of the victims of violence. And again, we note that at least 49 cases of femicides in Algeria since the beginning of 2021 have not been included in this report. At the end, we say that encouraging women to come forward and report violence they experience has to be linked with offering them alternatives for safety which is relatively not not existing in Algeria. Shelter, financial and psychological help are not offered for women experiencing violence in Algeria which is resulting in women not reporting crimes and suffering in silence. We strongly say that what can protect women best against violence is a state of justice and freedom of speech and hope to reach that one day.

كشفت المديرية العامة للأمن الوطني وقيادة الدرك الوطني عن إحصائياتها السنوية الخاصة بالنساء ضحايا العنف في الجزائر لعام 2021 والتي اختارتا تقديمها للتوعية بالعنف ضد المرأة في الجزائر قبل يومين فقط من اليوم العالمي القضاء على العنف ضد المرأة ، ويوافق يوم 25 نوفمبر من كل عام. وبحسب تلك الإحصائيات المقدمة خلال مؤتمر صحفي يوم الإثنين 22 نوفمبر 2021 ، سجلت المديرية العامة للأمن الوطني وقيادة الدرك الوطني 17737 حالة عنف ضد المرأة في الجزائر عام 2021 أحصت قيادة الدرك الوطني 12511 سيدة تعرضن للعنف خلال عام 2020 ، كما أحصوا 12331 حالة خلال الأشهر التسعة الأولى من عام 2021 ، من جهة أخرى ، أشارت إحصاءات الأمن الوطني إلى تسجيل 5412 حالة عنف ضد المرأة خلال الأشهر التسعة الأولى من عام 2021. يبدو أن الأرقام المماثلة لتلك المذكورة في هذا التقرير تتكرر على مدى السنوات الماضية منذ عام 2000. لذلك نتساءل عن صحة هذه الإحصائيات .... ليست لدينا أدوات للتحقق مما إذا كانت هذه الإحصائيات حقيقية ، لكن حسابًا بسيطًا بإضافة تلك الأرقام المعلنة في المؤتمر الصحفي لقضايا العنف ضد المرأة في الجزائر في عام 2021 سيظهر أن 12331 + 5412 = 17743 حالة بدلاً من 17737 حالة ومن حيث الأرقام ، فقد سجلت الأجهزة الأمنية على الدوام 5 حالات ضرب أفضى إلى الوفاة ، و 9 حالات محاولة قتل ، و 57 حالة اعتداء جنسي ، و 67 حالة تحرش جنسي ، و 21 حالة اختطاف ، بالإضافة إلى 91 حالة تحرش. - سجلت على الطريق العام 1137 حالة سوء معاملة وتصدر العنف الزوجي هذه الإحصائيات بـ 1573 حالة ، أي ما يمثل 29٪ من ضحايا العنف. ومرة أخرى ، نلاحظ أن ما لا يقل عن 49 حالة قتل للنساء في الجزائر منذ بداية عام 2021 لم يتم تضمينها في هذا التقرير. في النهاية ، نقول إن تشجيع النساء على التقدم والإبلاغ عن العنف الذي يتعرضن له يجب أن يكون مرتبطًا بتقديم بدائل للأمان لهن وهو أمر غير موجود نسبيًا في الجزائر. لا يتم توفير المأوى والمساعدة المالية والنفسية للنساء اللائي يتعرضن للعنف في الجزائر مما يؤدي إلى عدم إبلاغ النساء عن الجرائم والمعاناة في صمت. نقول بقوة إن أفضل ما يمكن أن يحمي المرأة من العنف هو دولة العدل وحرية التعبير ونأمل أن نصل إلى ذلك في يوم من الأيام.
